about

A song inspired heavily by Daniel Quinn's Ishmael, Bryony wrote Nazaré in the first lockdown. It depicts the unhealthy relationship we, as humans, have with the natural world.

lyrics

I spend my time thinking ‘bout Nazaré.
A merciless power that never fades.
To navigate it is a trial of your faith.
Been thinking ‘bout, been thinking ‘bout Nazaré.

Don’t change a thing if I live or die
Changing laws won’t change their minds
None of this belongs to humankind.
Don’t change a thing, don’t change a thing if I die.

If I had a boat I would sail to the sky,
Find a small island where I’d live by your side.
Be Cain and Abel but live as allies.
Oh I would sail, yeah I would sail to the sky.

Long ago, we would hear her sing
Through a storm or a breeze in the spring.
To sing along, is it virtue or sin?
We would hear
Oh, we would hear her sing…

I spend my time thinking ‘bout Nazaré.
All the power there to subjugate.
We’ll sell it off to strangers like it’s real estate.
Been thinking ‘bout, been thinking ‘bout Nazaré.
